How Advising Works

Once your application for admissions has been processed, you will be assigned to an educational advisor. Your advisor is your constant go-to resource on campus and will support you proactively and holistically. You will partner with your advisor to create a long-term educational plan using the Degree Audit tool located in myBHC.

Check your student emails often as your advisor will email you regularly. Lastly, plan to join the Canvas myAdvising course where you will find answers to many questions and access helpful resources and success tools.

Meet Your Advisors

You will be assigned to an educational advisor depending upon your Program of Study and/or first letter of the last name. Career and Technical advisors (CTE) work with students who intended to earn a certificate or degree and enter the workforce upon graduation. Transfer advisors work with students who intend to earn the Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree and transfer to a four-year school upon graduation.

Once you have access to myBHC, you can easily schedule an appointment there. Meetings may occur in-person in the East Campus (Galva) and Quad-Cities Campus (Moline) Advising Centers, remotely (Zoom) or by phone depending upon your preference and advisor availability.
